I have not been blogging for almost two months. I've been a bit more "domestic"than creative this summer: I bought a small freezer and set about immediately filling it up with things I prepared myself: frozen vegetables and fruit, meat that I ground myself, healthy biscuit mixes, etc. Then I worried that all would be lost when Hurricane Irene came through and the power would go out for a week--but, for us, it didn't. I can't even express how fortunate I feel, as many of my friends lost power for over a week, lost trees, or had other damage. A mile down the road, many houses were destroyed.
Since my semester ended, I've also read seven books, a real treat for me, cleaned part of my basement, gardened, knitted a stash of gifts, and made ONE quilt: a baby shower gift for my great niece Rachel. Last but not least, I spent a week with my son's family in Florida, where I turned my eight-year-old granddaughter, Mary, on to knitting, which she called addicting.
Here is the baby quilt and closeups, a jungle print quilt for a baby who will be living in Alaska. We know the baby is a boy and will be called Liam, so I was able to really personalize the label.
Thanks to my friends in Sisters in Cloth, who suggested a black and white inner border. It really works.
The edges are not as crooked as they look in the photo. My design wall is just not big enough. I was in a hurry because I had to ship this to California from Connecticut in time for the shower, which was Sunday. Never do this at the last minute--it will cost you a fortune to ship. I know.

Great quilt, Ruth Anne -- he's going to adore it! The fabric really sings -- and babies LOVE lots of great color, don't they?
