SAQA-CT met at the Brookfield Craft Center. As usual, people brought lots of inspiring work. I could not stop thinking about
Kate Themel's. She gave a talk about the methods used to make a 2-D quilt have a 3-D look: color, value, shading. She described the processes she uses to create her pictorial quilts. Her close quilting looks as good on the back as on the front.
I have been thinking this week about a small quilt for my dentist for her birthday. After getting home from the meeting, I looked at some of my photographs on my computer. I selected this lotus to work into a quilt.

I printed it on cotton because I seem to be out of silk, and have quilted it. This process allows me to use my photography and my sewing skills in one project.
Tomorrow I will tie off all the threads and take a picture.
