Color Theory

I'm excited. I'm taking an art class, Color Theory, at the college where I teach. It's the first formal art class I've ever taken, including high school. Because of snow, we've only met once. Our first assignment is to make a paper collage of about 30 pieces of paper that represent the complete range of value from white to black. This assignment inspired me to make this quilt.

I already had these fabrics arranged on my work table before the class started.  I've only used eight fabrics here, but each is a different value. Good practice for the class. I couched metallic yarn that I've had in my stash for years, purchased at Garn Huset, a yarn discount store in Norway. This is the reason I don't throw things away. Eventually they are included as the perfect adjunct to a project.

I sent the quilt to SAQA today for the "This is a Quilt" trunk show.

Hi Ruth Anne,
I like the colors on the above quilt.I recently joined your blog and thought you might be interested in following mine at decolourant.blogspot.com
deColourant removes and replaces the dyed color of fabrics with ease, plus no nasty smells, instead it has a slight citrus smell. The possibilities are endless and quilters really seem to be liking it. Maybe you can bring it up in when you make it to class again, darn snow! I won't even tell you what the weather is like here:) Have a good one.
