Watercolor and silk organza

This is the cover of the "card" I made for my daughter's birthday. It was actually a piece of art I slipped into the cover of a three-ring binder. In the folder were print-outs of facts from 1960: best-seller lists, fashion photos, Grammy winners, hit movies, and so on. She enjoyed it.

The cover art is a heavy sheet of watercolor paper on which I scribbled with watercolor pencils, followed by brushing with water. I had printed on silk organza passages from Karen's books, snippets of reviews, and a few of Karen's own blog and Facebook comments. I cut out and applied them with matte gel medium, finally covering the whole sheet with the medium. I liked the way I was able to "shmoosh" the pieces of fabric around to make them wavy. When finished, I saw a bit of blank area, so sprinkled with crushed gold-colored glass.

Hi Ruth Anne,

I love what you have made for your daughtet, Something very personal to show that you are thinking of her. It is my daughter's birthday in September, I really must try and make something special for her too. I need to work fast though, she lives in New Zealand!
