CONN-Text Challenge: This is a little better
I removed all the machine stitching from my failed attempt at thread stitching my quote. As I said in my previous post, the stitching left obvious holes in the fabric. Maybe I could have eliminated them, maybe not. I didn't bother to try. Instead, I used some silk embroidery thread, two strands, and hand-stitched the quote with a stem stitch following the marks made by the machine needle. The thread is slightly variegated, ranging from lavender to a pale red-violet. I got the subtlety I was looking for, but the quote can be read: "The sky is the daily bread of the eyes."
I am still stitching down the facing, the author's name needs to be added under the quote (Ralph Waldo Emerson), and I may do some embellishment with beads or Lumiere paint to highlight the illusion of the sun. I will post a photo of the quilt when it's done. In the meantime, you can see it unfinished and the other entries at the Sisters in Cloth blog.

THAT'S the result you were looking for! Beautiful -- and you get to fondle the fabric more when you hand embroider it. A win-win situation!
